Equatorial Launch Australia operates the Australian Space Centre, a spaceport in Cape York. Think of it like an airport, but for rockets. I’ve been the Graphic Designer and Marketing Specialist since July 2024, working in the marketing team to attract potential customers and engage the general public in space activity from Australia.

My responsibilities including managing the ELA and subsidiary brand, developing engaging content for paid and organic channels, developing the ELA website, to reposition ELA in the market from a start-up to a credible industry-leader in launch.

Australian Space Centre Logo

As ELA moved it’s site from the Northern Territory to Queensland, the spaceport required a new branding to reflect the new name, ‘Australian Space Centre’. I took the opportunity to move away from the ‘space’ focus of the old logo for a more accurate and ‘grounded’ representation of what ELA does - developing ground-based infrastructure for rocket integration and launch. The official slogan is ‘You bring the rockets… we’ll take care of the rest’. The successful concept made use of negative space to emphasise this.

In the lead up to a major industry event, the International Astronautical Congress, ELA’s website needed a significant update to align with the maturity of the company. The previous WordPress was slow to load, did not adhere to accessibility standards and wasn’t engaging or dynamic.

With less than 30 days until the event, I learned and used the Framer platform to design and publish a new website, working closely with the marketing manager on copy and messaging. The aim was to quickly and effectively communicate what, where and how ELA works and the benefits for NewSpace rocket companies over traditional spaceports both on business model and in location.

The website was successfully completed ahead of the event, able to be launched even earlier for World Space Business Week, another Significant industry event.

3D Renders in Blender

ELA relies on 3D renders to showcase the design for their proprietary launch technology to customers and investors. With technology advances making outsourced renders costly and outdated, I produced 3D models and renders in-house using Blender – cutting costs, turnaround time and revision cycles while ensuring accuracy.

This system enables quick changes of camera angles, updates to engineering, and different lighting / weather conditions to be completed same-day without any external party.
